Dancing our socks off!

Well done to Year 2 and Mrs Fricker for a fantastic performance at the Ashton Park Olympics Dance festival last week.

Our performance stood out as colourful, exciting and professional!

Well done to our friends in years 3,4 and 5 who performed with their dance groups. They were fabulous too!

We are looking forward to sharing our performance with parents this week.

Adios amigos!

We have so enjoyed our Mexico topic. Here are some pictures of our 'hook'.
We dressed up in traditional Mexican dress and shared a sumptuous feast of Mexican delights, many of which we had made ourselves with the help of our Parent helpers - Thank you!
Some of the costumes were pretty scary!
We also had lots of fun learning some Spanish last week.
In Numeracy this week we have been investigating fractions - whole, halves and quarters.

Week 3

In Literacy this week we have been creating rhythmic poems on the theme of the seasons. We wrote a fantastic class poem about Spring and each wrote individual winter poems. They were great! All this work helped us create a Spanish dance in PE where we used 'hot' words to inspire our movements.
In Maths we have been practicing partitioning numbers in to tens and units to add two digit numbers together.
We have learned lots more about Mexico, comparing life in Mexico City and the countryside to our own loves in Bristol. On Friday we had a visit from Alejandro, a Mexican man who lives in England. He told us all about his childhood in Mexico and traditional Mexican food and games. He also told us how to say all our names in Spanish. We really enjoyed his visit. Thanks Alex!

Ola Mexico!

What an exciting start to our new topic, Mexico! We created 3D maps of Mexico and included different elements of the landscape such as the desert, forests, rivers and the sea.

We have enjoyed sharing the presentations prepared during the holidays and learning lots of facts about Mexico from each other.

in ICT we used the Internet to search for more information and found out that Mexico is a large country in Central America. The people there speak Spanish and wear Sombreros! It is a very popular holiday destination.

On Friday we sampled some Mexican guacamole and salsa. The unanimous verdict was 'yummy!'

Our Literacy this week has been poetry and we have loved learning and performing funny poems to each other. In Maths we have been creating pictograms and learning to count in groups.

Bella Bella Cinderella

This week we performed our wonderful Christmas show 'Cinderella'.

The dancers, singers and actors were all outstanding and Mrs Thwaites and Mrs Fricker were very proud of us!
The Ugly sisters were particularly gruesome and frightening!

Mr Jones thought we were all natural performers.

We are all looking forward to watching the KS2 play next week.

Christmas is coming!

It may be only November but in Year 2 we are already getting ready for Christmas, rehearsing our Christmas play.

In Maths this week we have been learning how to tell the time to the nearest hour and half hour. We have started to learn how to use a digital clock and to break down the hour into 5 minute blocks.

In Literacy we have been writing explanations of how sound travels.

This is a picture of Year 2 with spot the Gorilla on Children in Need day last week.

Capacity

This week in Year 2 we have been doing lots of investigations into capacity.

Here we are playing capacity games on the laptops.

We made our own cocktails by measuring out different amounts of fruit squash.

We used the whiteboard to investigate shadows.
