Sorry for the lack of blog for the last couple of weeks!

Year 2 had a great time during Science week. We investigated which would be the best material for the troll to use when making a raft for the Billy Goat's Gruff to get across the river! We also had a brilliant time exploring forces using bubbles. We had to make the bubbles go in different directions and also stay up for longer using our 'flappers'..

During the keys stage 1 mix-up (year R, 1 and 2) we had to hunt for wooly caterpillars with Miss Welton, made pennies VERY shiny with Ms Gower and tested how waterproof different materials were with Miss Morgan.

We all dressed up for children in need and made a right funny bunch!!

We enjoyed an active golden time playing on our scooters.

Bee bots and north street

On Wednesday Year 2 got out the bee bots for an exploration session. We learned how to program them forwards, backwards, left and right. We are looking forward to programming them around the bee-bot village!

On Wednesday morning we also went to North Street! We carried out a survey of all the different buildings and just loved being out and about - everyone smiled and waved at us! Our behaviour was excellent so we were rewarded with 3 marbles.

At the end of last term Year 2 held an exhibition of the work we did during our China topic.
The children performed their 'Chinese Dragon' dance. Year 2 worked really hard and had loads of enthusiasm for this topic. They were very proud of all their work.
We read the comments in the visitors book the next day and it made us feel '10 ft tall'!

On Friday Year 2 went out to the agility trail for golden time (we had special permission from Mrs Roberts)! It was a beautiful afternoon!

This week year 2 did cooking again with Liz, Bridget and Bev. They made 'Chinese dumplings' of the sweet variety. They were very yummy!

This week Year 2 have been celebrating Chinese New Year!!
On Thursday it was Miss Morgan's PPA day so Yr 2 spent the day with Mrs Hilberg. They made lucky red envelopes, chinese lanterns and dragon masks. In the afternoon everyone had a fortune cookie - some of the fortunes were very interesting! We also tried a sweet that chinese children would be given for chinese new year. We watched a DVD about how the children in China celebrate. We also performed our dragon dance to the Reception class as a rehearsal for our performance at Ashton Park.

We performed brilliantly at the dance festival and Miss Morgan was very proud! It was lovely to watch the other schools dance as well.

Massive map making

This week year 2 have been using their geographical, as well as their art, skills to make large scale 3D maps. They are not quite finished yet as we need to add the 3D bits! The children collaborated in small groups - they have worked really well together.

Movement and measures

Here are some pictures of Year 2 'warming up' before gymnastics last week. We were playing the game 'beans'.

This week in numeracy we have been doing lots of measuring. We used metre sticks to measure things in the classroom and applied our rounding skills to measure to the nearest 10cm.
We also measured weight using kilograms and grams. We completed an investigation which relied on our accurate estimating skills.

Year 2 got ready for bed in school on Monday when we had our pyjama party. We enjoyed drinking hot chocolate and eating cookies whilst listening to stories.
