Christmas celebrations are definitely in full flow at Luckwell! On Tuesday we did DT. We designed and then made our own decorations completely by ourselves. They are lovely and are hanging in the classroom!
On Wednesday we needed to keep busy (and quiet) so that we didn't disturb KS 2's production. We went down to the sports hall and made some HUGE paper chains! Then we did collaborative christmas pictures and snow scenes on big pieces of paper. It was a fun afternoon.
This week Year 2 have been the stars of 'The nativity'. They have all been brilliant and worked so hard. A special well done to the children who stepped into other people's parts at the last minute!

Christmas is creeping up!
This week Year 2 have been collecting and presenting data. We found out which fruits the class liked and then presented this as a graph on 2Graph. The children gave the graph a title and labelled each axis.
We watched the Bristol Old Vic nativity on Thursday. It was very funny! Thanks to the PTFA who fund this event for the whole school.

Witches, wizards all things magical!
This week year 2 have been cooking! We made 'Fab' footballs' - a recipe which the children chose from Ava's 'Big Cook, Little Cook book' which she kindly brought in for the class to use.
We used another recipe from the book on Thursday when we made 'Pizza Shields' with Bridgit, Liz and Bev. We used the dough left over from when we made bread last term.
In literacy we have been focusing on 'Instructions'. We made jam sandwiches on Wednesday and got to eat them! Then, we wrote insructions to tell someone else how to do it.
Friday was Children in Need. It was a truly magical day! The school was turned into Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. We had a visit from Professor Snape! Well done Ravenclaw for scoring the most amount of points out of all the houses.

Adventurous tasters!
This week year 2 have been learning all about how to maintain a healthy lifetsyle. We have discussed exercise, healthy eating and hygiene.
On Thursday we tasted lots of different fruits which feature in the story 'Oliver's fruit salad'. We tried plum, apple, banana, grapes, strawberries, blackberries, pineapple and blueberries. We were all very adventurous and tried fruits we hadn't had before. The blackberries were a bit sour!
We also had an opportunity to browse the books in the book fair on Friday. We absolutely loved doing this. Nina pointed out 'There are just so many lovely books I just don't know which one to choose'!

Alien invasion!
Today (Friday) there was a bit of an alien theme for year 2! We had such an exciting visitor in celebration assembly - 'Cosmo' the Playspace alien came to present a year 1 child with a prize from the Play 4 Life challenge, which we took part in last term.
After that the explore team visited us again and we did some literacy based on an alien adventure. We also played word BINGO and impressed them with our reading skills!
We danced our socks off at the KS 1 disco and made lots of noise with our whistles!!!
We earned all of our marbles for excellent behaviour and so we had a cinema in the classroom. We watched 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' and ate popcorn out of our own popcorn cones!

Another interesting visitor!
Today (Tuesday) we had Kathryn from Brace's bakery visit us for our 'Wow' event. Our topic this Term is 'Big Cook, Little Cook' and we are going to be learning lots about food and doing a lot of cooking!
Kathryn began by telling us about Brace's bakery and then she and her 'mini - baker' (Milo) made some dough. Kathryn talked us through all of the ingredients very carefully.
Then we watched a video about how some bread is made in a BIG factory. It was very interesting!
Kathryn then gave us a talk about healthy eating. She finished with a quiz. We got all of the answers right!

Fitness and fire engines!
Year 2 have had a busy and exciting week with some fun visitors. On Tuesday we had a 'Fun fitness workout' which was purchased using the sainsburys school vouchers. So, thanks to everyone who collected those for the school. The workout was very energetic and we all felt very fit and healthy after it!>
On Thursday we had a visit from the Bedminster fire service. It was so exciting to see a fire engine in the playground! The firemen and woman showed us all of their equipment and we all had a go at using the hose which was very powerful! We impressed the firemen with how much we knew about the Great Fire of London.

Pour on water, Pour on water!
Year 2 travelled back in time to help the firefighters during the Great Fire of London. They had run out of buckets and needed to find a really good material to make some more. We tested plastic, foil, paper, kitchen roll, cotton, plasticine and card.
We discovered that the best material would be either plastic or foil as neither of these leaked.
