Last week was very busy as we had 3 performances of the Nutcracker to do! We all worked really hard though and did really well.
This week has been about all things christmassy!
We made christmas decorations out of salt dough. We all enjoyed getting very messy!
We also had our christmas party and had a very special visitor from somebody. Can you guess who?!

Thank you for all of your support and help so far this year.
Have a wonderful christmas and see you all in the new year!

Fun with puppets!

On Tuesday Year 2 were lucky enough to watch a puppet show - peformed by the group ACTA. It was really good and made us all laugh alot! The puppets were really life like and we had lots of questions about how they were made. At the end of the show one of the puppetiers kindly donated her puppet to our class!

We have been working on measures in numeracy focussing on weight. Here we are making balls of plasticine weigh accurate weights. We learnt about the units used in weight.

Christmas countdown!

On Friday the whole school was lucky enough to see a Bristol Old Vic production of the nativity story. It was very funny and they did some lovely singing. Year 2 enjoyed it very much! Especially when the shepherds were chasing the 'sheep thief'!

Also on Friday we worked hard to get the main display and our class display completed. We all made our own individual bauble to stick onto a giant bauble. See if you can spot ours amongst all of the other classes. Our board is an ice-skating scene. We enjoyed making our own snowflake, doing a green handprint for the tree and decorating the skaters.

Bee-bot town and measures!

We were very, very excited about making our Bee-Bot town using the buildings we made at home over half term! It looked fantastic and we had SO much fun navigating the town and directing the Bee-Bots to different places.

In maths we were working on measures. We had a lot of fun making play-do worms and ordering them smallest to largest. Then we had to group them by estimating if they were more or less than 10cm. Tricky stuff!

Sorry for the delay with this week's blog!
Last week we visited Gorse Marsh to see the improvements that had been made. Luckily it stayed dry(ish) for KS 1!

We practised using the Bee-Bots in preperation for naviagting our Bee-Bot towns.
The buildings are fantastic! Well done for all of your hard work making them.

In numeracy we did lots of handling data activities such as sorting dominoes into 'has a one spot' and 'does not have a one spot' groups.

Rafts and rhythm

Today (Thursday) we carried out a science investigation. The Three Billy Goats could not get over the bridge because it was broken. The helpful troll wanted to build them a raft but didnt know what to use. We had to test the materials to find out which one was the best. We tested plasticine, plastic, cardboard, cloth and wood. We made sure that the test was fair by keeping lots of things the same.
We had an exciting visit from Celso Paco ealier in the week. He told us some stories and showed us his African instruments.
There are also some photos from last week when we made our contributions to the harvest display. We worked in groups and used collage to create our fruits and vegetables.

Once again thanks for all of your support this term. I hope everyone has a GREAT holiday!!

A very busy week!

Wow! Year 2 have had an extremely busy week! On Tuesday a lady called Debbie came in to show us and Miss Morgan some 'wake and shake' activities. It was lots of fun and we loved her animal shaped bean bags!
Then on Wednesday we held our 'Heroes and Villains' exhibition. It was a great success and year 2 felt very proud of all of their hardwork they have done this term. Thank you to everyone who came and showed us their support.
On Thursday afternoon a we had a 'fun fitness workout' which was booked using the sainsbury's active vouchers. Our instructor worked us very hard for a whole hour! Thank you to Mrs Linton for organising it for us.

Making shapes!

Another busy week in Year 2! In maths this week we have been focussing on shape. Here we are sorting and grouping 3D shapes. We had to think carefully about their features to decide which group they belonged in.
We also made our own 'new' 2D shapes by folding paper which was lots of fun!
We finished our models this week and are all getting very excited about the exhbition next Wednesday. Don't forget to come along and you can see how busy we have been this term!

Messy models!

Our literacy unit for the next 3 weeks is 'traditional tales'. So, we have been reading lots of stories such as 'Goldilocks and the three bears' and 'The 3 Billy Goats Gruff'. Here we are acting out some of the scenes from 'Golidlocks and the three bears'. We also read an alternative version of the story called 'Beware of the Bears'. We really enjoyed it!

We were very excited this week as we began to make our super heroes. First we had to make the structure and cover it with paper and glue.
Then, when they had dried, we painted the head and body. Finally we could stick on pieces of material for capes and wings. It was all very messy but lots of fun!
